I was honored to be invited to create a piece for Kim Abeles's Mother's Day project "Portraits of Mothers in Petri Dishes." This piece was emotional and difficult to conceptualize and create, but ultimately satisfying, revealing and cathartic.
I titled the piece, "As We Are" after part of this quote, which I've been reflecting on a lot lately:
The piece is watercolor on paper, glue and ceramic in a petri dish. Difficult to photograph well, so better to see it in real life. On view in Studio B-17 at Keystone Art Space through May 22 (Mon-Sat, 12-5PM).
Shown in conjunction with Kim Abeles's show Mothers, Eggshells, and the People Who Birth Us in the main gallery, opening Sunday May 13, 2-5PM. Show runs through May 22 (Mon-Sat, 12-5PM).
