Happy International Women's Day, everyone! I appreciate this opportunity to raise my awareness around gender issues, celebrate the wins and to encourage everyone - female, male, binary - to pitch in for a better, more equitable future.
The theme for this year's IWD is #BeBoldforChange, which I just love. My Flawless series is an exploration in portraying bold femininity, something I am continuing to examine in my new work. I'm also trying to educate myself more on these issues.
According to the World Economic Forum, at the current rate the gender gap won't completely close until 2186 (!). That is just too long, so the idea is to take action now to achieve this sooner. Click these links to learn more about the theme and/or choose an action to take. Together we can do better for the next generation.
As an aside, you may have noticed that I have a thing for painting red dresses. I was pretty excited about the call to wear red today, but to my surprise found that I have very little red clothing in my wardrobe (besides scarves)! Perhaps something to remedy...
Regardless, I seem to spot these things everywhere, as in the photo to the right, which I took while wandering around downtown LA's warehouse district a couple weeks ago (I was looking for the historic Woman's Building on N. Spring Street, but that's a story for another time).
