Artist Talk: Bold Beauty - Photos

Wow! What a lovely turnout for Saturday's Artist Talk "Bold Beauty" at Pilates & Arts, which I facilitated. This show brought together four artists - Mara Zaslove, Miki Berman, Nicole Fournier and myself - to "honor the bold beauty of femininity. Strong. Smart. Pretty. Sexy. Ageless Beauty." The Artist Talk was an opportunity for each of us to talk about how our own work in the context of the show's theme, and for the audience to ask us questions about our content and our techniques. A video of the talk will be available soon.

I kicked off the evening by sharing about my featured paintings - all from my Flawless series, about refusing to apologize for femininity, recognizing that pretty isn't weak. You can learn more about the series in my recent post Flawless to Bold Beauty

Miki Berman's colorful watercolor portraits of bold women stare directly back at you, sometimes with shy yet provocative smiles. She explained how each portrait is titled with an emotion, exploring the range that brings our humanity to the forefront.

Mara Zaslove exhibited her black and white photography series "Aging Gracefully," which features intimate and often nude portraits of an 80-something year old woman who is visibly comfortable in her aging skin.

The show is up through January 25th; contact venue for viewing hours. Special thanks to Tannis Kobrinsky, the owner of Pilates & Arts, who is a wonderful advocate for the arts and women's rights. What an inspiring evening.
